Multi-Model Databases

Multi-Model Databases are databases that combine various database models to one database engine. They support multiple database models and provide a single backend depending on the type of app supported. Nowadays, companies handle a large amount of data daily and as such, they need a database system that will effectively store data in all formats. The relational database models are no longer efficient means of storing data, hence the need for a more flexible system that can support multiple models. Examples of data models that can be accommodated by multi-model databases include object-oriented, relational, key-value, graph models, document, and wide-column. Using multi-model databases, companies can eliminate the problems of inconsistencies and fragmentation. Other benefits of using multi-model databases include improved reliability, reduction in operational cost, flexibility, independent scaling of various components, and so on. Some common features of a multi-model database include ACID transactions, integration, indexing and querying mechanisms, advanced security features, and data storage, backup and recovery. Many vendors offer databases with various features. It is up to prospective users to choose the database appropriate for their organization needs.
