Tomviz or tomographic visualization allows the research community to comprehend large 3D datasets interactively. Specifically, this software analyzes 3D tomographic data at the nanoscale. A nanoscale is a measurement of the tiniest objects, such that a particle can quantitatively analyze from all angles.Tomviz software is designed to visualize electron tomography data.

It uses large quantities of memory and the processing resources required to analyze large three-dimensional tomograms. It is graphically interface enabled such that the analyzed data can be depicted as volumetric projections. This interface has visualization settings that can allow the rotating of objects, slicing, animating as well as saving the final result as images or video files.

It is also possible to analyze the collected data further into histograms, multi correlation statistics, multiple filters as well as user-customized python scripts. By user-customized python scripts, it means that this design allows code readability and the syntax allows programmers o show concepts or facts in fewer lines of code. Tomviz can tackle big datasets and at the same time allow researchers to comprehend nanoscale universe across dimensions.

To make use of this software, scientists use data obtained from electron microscopes and loading it into the application. Modern electron microscopes are used because single atoms can be seen as an image. The fields of research in biology, medicine, and material science, are one of the beneficiaries of this software.Tomviz is supported in 64 bit Windows, Linux operating system, and macOS. A NVIDIA graphics card is needed for best performance.
