The Master of Science in Project Management offered at University of Alaska Anchorage is designed for working professionals and helps them develop a high-demand skill-set valued in both private and public sectors, and across all industries. Courses are taught by a team of established faculty members and instructors who bring extensive academic and professional experience to each course. Courses are delivered in the traditional classroom and/or online through state-of-the-art, real-time video capabilities. The online format allows students from across the state and around the world to join local students and faculty in the classroom in real time. This real-time capability also enables students who must travel during the semester to join the class from wherever they may be. Additionally, all class sessions are recorded and posted to the UAA learning management system. This enables students to review classes in case they miss a class session, from anyplace, anytime. The program is structured in phases that have been established in order to evaluate a student’s progress and performance. Students are admitted conditionally to the program until they successfully complete a phase. Students must receive departmental approval prior to enrollment to subsequent courses.
The program’s core curriculum emphasizes on fundamentals of project management necessary to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control and close projects in multiple organizational and industry contexts. Students are also required to complete an additional 12 credits of electives, for which they may petition for a single elective 3-credit graduate-level course from outside the program. In addition, 2 Capstone projects totaling 6 graduate-level credit hours are required for the degree and are taken over two semesters. The projects must demonstrate command of knowledge and skills associated with the student’s graduate program of study. Students present their capstone project for evaluation by a panel of faculty and project management practitioners.
