Ignition is a set of tools which is used to create inventory systems, point of sale applications and other kinds of applications such as SCADA. Ignition offers features such as client or server architecture, web-based server management, web-deployed client applications, quick to install and use, database-centric and database-agnostic, cross-platform, runs on Windows, Linux and OS X, licensing for unlimited tags and unlimited clients, mobile solution for mobile devices, Java based.

Provides Python scripting support, closed-source, software development kit available for expanding the tool set and capabilities of ignition by third-parties, marketplace available for sale and distribution of tools and capabilities built on the, ignition platform, supported by integrators, good technical support available and documentation and training materials available.

Ignition is often used to create Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications where SCADA applications monitor and control devices, processes and activities and then data is collected, analyzed and formatted to produce valuable dashboards, charts and reports.

Ignition’s new system can annotate messages with contextual information, so it is easier for users to dig deep into the logging system with greater precision where the log information is searchable and filterable, allowing for precise pinpointing of diagnostic messages in the log history.

Ignition also offers a Remote Tag Provider which lets the user view and utilize a Tag Provider from a different Gateway where it supports browsing, real-time value subscriptions, and full read/write/edit capabilities with multiple facilities are provided for accessing remote alarm status and tag history. Ignition also has a Remote Alarm Provider which offers several ways to utilize the alarm notification capabilities of a remote Ignition Gateway.
