The Business Analytics program in the Decision Sciences department is designed for students who have an interest in quantitative methods, exploring and uncovering relationships through data analysis, using the data to solve business problems, and want to enter or advance in a career in business analytics. The MS in Business Analytics is also ideal for MBA students seeking a quantitative second degree. Prepare to influence decision-making, strategy and operations with fact-based insights and an in-depth understanding of business performance analysis from a systems view — using statistical and quantitative analysis of data as well as explanatory and predictive modeling. The program draws on the following areas of business intelligence: statistics, operations research, mathematical modeling and management information systems to access and create databases that support the other areas.By gaining an in-depth understanding of business performance analysis from a systems view, students will be prepared to influence all levels of strategy and decision-making with fact-based insights using statistical and quantitative analysis of data as well as explanatory and predictive modeling. This includes coursework draws on statistics, operations research, mathematical modeling and management information systems as well as STEM Designated Degree Program by the United States Department of Homeland SecurityCourse offerings also include an introduction to the fundamentals of Hadoop and MapReduce. Students work closely with MS Career Services for career exploration, professional resume assistance, job search and interview preparation. Students take nine required courses for 27 credits. Students must select a three course (nine credits) concentration. Concentrations are available in the following areas: Statistics, Modeling, Information Systems, or Functional Business Area (accounting, marketing, finance, etc.). Students take three free elective courses.
