InterSystems Caché is an advanced database management system and rapid application development environment. InterSystems Caché takes the complexity out of application design and deployment. Several high-availability options, including an elegant approach to mirroring, endow applications with robust reliability – but require less hardware than other vendors’ solutions. A flexible, adaptable security model with easy-to-use provisioning capabilities makes it simple to control access to resources. With the overall simplicity of its architecture, and powerful system management tools, Caché requires fewer database administrators (DBAs) than other databases. Within Caché, data can be modeled and stored as tables, objects, or multidimensional arrays (hierarchies). Different models can seamlessly access data – without the need for performance-killing mapping between models. Built-in support for dynamic data objects (such as XML and JSON) enables easy interoperability and rapid development of Web applications. SQL is the lingua franca for querying Caché data across all data models. Because of its efficient architecture, Caché provides inherently faster SQL performance than other database technologies. It supports traditional indexes as well as bit-map and bit-slice indexes that can be used with real-time transactional data. InterSystems Enterprise Cache Protocol allows a network of many servers to behave as a single data store, dramatically enhancing the scalability and performance of distributed applications. Applications based on Caché maintain a very high level of performance, even as they scale up in transaction volume, number of users, and concurrent analytical queries. At its core, Caché is a key value hierarchical database that has compact storage, excellent memory caching, fast reads and writes, optimized index traversing, all underpinned with ACID transactions.
