Cacti offer a fast poller, multiple data acquisition methods, user management, and graph templating features. All these features are in an intuitive and easy to use interface that is ideal for LAN-seized installations as well as complex network with thousands of devices. The features offered by Cacti include graphs, data sources, data gathering, templates, graph display, and user management. The graphs feature provides an unlimited number of graph items that can be defined for each graph optionally utilizing CDEFs or data sources from within Cacti.
The graph feature also provides auto-padding support to make sure the graph legend text lines up. With the graphs feature, users can manipulate the graph using math functions. The math functions can be defined in Cacti. The data sources feature offers round robin archive settings. These settings can be customised to give the user the ability to gather data on non-standard timespans while storing varying amounts of data.
The data sources also support RRD files with more than one data source and can use an RRD file stored anywhere on the local file system. The data gathering feature offers a data input mechanism that allows users to define custom scripts that can be used to gather data. The data gathering feature also allows retrieving data using SNMP or a script with an index. The templates feature enable simple graphs to be grouped.
