Fess

Fess is very powerful and easily deployable Enterprise Search Server. Users can install and run Fess quickly on any platforms, which have Java runtime environment. Fess is provided under Apache license. Fess is Elasticsearch-based search server, but knowledge/experience about Elasticsearch is NOT needed because of All-in-One Enterprise Search Server. Fess provides Administration GUI to configure the system on the users’ browser. Fess also contains a crawler, which can crawl documents on Web/File System/DB and support many file formats, such as MS Office, pdf and zip. Fess can run on any operating system with Java runtime environment. Fess provides the Search Form/Results UI for Browser and Administration UI on Browser. The Search Form/Results UI for Browser allows a user to search target documents of Fess on a browser. Administration UI on Browser is an administrative UI to manage Fess server. Users can change Fess‘s behavior without rebooting the Fess. User Configuration page manages users on Fess. Managed users is able to login Fess and users which has admin role manages Fess configuration. Fess manages configuration data as indices. N2SM, Inc. provides support services for Fess, and also provides Enterprise Search Software, N2 Search, based on Fess. Fess supports JSON API response. If users want to use an additional hidden query, Fess provides ex_q request parameter. The value of ex_q is kept in search-scope. Fess supports Geo Search to search documents with location information. To perform Geo search, indexed document needs to contain values of latitude and longitude in location field. Fess supports Fuzzy search based on the Levenshtein Distance or Edit Distance algorithm.
