The Master of Science in Management and Human Resources of the University of Tennessee is designed to teach our students the skills needed to succeed in HR roles. While maintaining a strong core of HR content, the program’s curriculum emphasizes analytical evaluation and decision making, and leadership development. The program equips graduates with the technical expertise to provide legal, ethical, and practical HR solutions, giving them a distinct advantage to advance their careers. Students also learn to analyze issues, propose, and implement solutions, and effectively optimize human capital for a range of organizations. This degree program requires 33 credit hours learning strategic human resources integrated with core business skills and personal leadership development. It is designed to offer a flexible curriculum and timeline by offering evening courses and allowing students to complete the program at their own pace, within one, two, or three years. The program is a perfect fit for students who want to start careers in management positions in HR or any other field, irrespective of their particular undergraduate degrees or current level of experience. Graduates of this program have advanced their careers to become vice presidents of HR, directors of HR, employee relations managers, recruiting directors, benefits consultants and compensation managers. Studying this Master’s program presents a couple of benefits. First, the Haslam College of Business faculty members are available to provide expert commentary and analysis to students on a broad range of topics. Secondly, students in this program participate in a business case competition each spring for the Southeast Regional Chapters of the SHRM. And finally, the MSHRM program holds interactive sessions with several national and international companies during the university’s career fair conducted in each fall, among other benefits.
