The Iowa Executive MBA is designed to help you upgrade your cross-functional understanding of business through a rigorous coverage of such topics as change management, organizational leadership, financial expertise, marketing strategy, supply chain, business and data analytics. It is very likely that your classmates will be leaders in diverse fields and the school’s team-based approach will help make their experience part of your EMBA experience. In addition, an expert faculty will tailor the various courses to your experience level so they can fulfill your expectations from a top-ranked MBA. The program is delivered in 2 locations: Iowa City and Des Moines. A new EMBA cohort starts in Iowa City every August and at Des Moines every other January. Both locations have classes on Fridays and Saturdays, with slight differences. Classes involve use of case analyses, business simulations, discussion, team presentations, lectures, assigned readings, and guest speakers. The Iowa Executive MBA curriculum consists of 19 courses designed to build your competency across business functions, from corporate finance to strategic management and business analytics. It also includes 2 week-long residencies at the beginning of each year that orients you to the semester ahead. Your first residency week introduces you to strategic management. You'll explore the role of marketing, operations, and finance in the strategic-planning process using case studies and a live business simulation. In your second residency week, instruction dives deep into strategic management, integrating all aspects of business through a complex, team-based business simulation. As an Iowa Executive MBA student, you’ll take part in an International Business Seminar, which is basically an intensive 10-day trip to China that enlightens you on culture and international business. Furthermore, you can apply the knowledge and skills you acquired in prior courses in a capstone project course. The course will empower you to think, develop, and lead the charge for new strategic initiatives that will enhance your organization's performance.
