The University of Chicago Booth School of Business full-time MBA features a flexible curriculum that has only one required course, a characteristic that allows students to design a program that aligns with their career goals. The program’s curriculum is so designed to give graduates the depth of knowledge and skills relevant to modern-day job market and which potential employers value. The curriculum also incorporates experiential learning that gives students the chance to integrate theory and practice. By testing the skills and knowledge learned in class in a practical setting, graduates of the program are well prepared for business leadership. To earn the Full-Time MBA degree program, students are required to attend 20 classes and an additional, mandatory Leadership Effectiveness and Development (LEAD) course. The courses consist of 3 foundation courses; Financial accounting, Microeconomics, and Statistics, that focus on developing analytical tools and knowledge that lay a foundation for the rest of the program’s courses. Then, students are taken through 6 core courses that cover basic business functions of finance, marketing, and operations; management i.e. decisions, people, and strategy; as well as the business environment in which organizations operate. To further build off these fundamental courses so you can develop a framework that complements your experiences and fits your career goals, it is a required that students study an additional set of 11 elective courses. These concentrations offer students the chance to explore a topic more deeply so they can learn the skills and tools relevant to areas of their particular interest. Students are allowed to take some classes from other University of Chicago departments as part of their elective courses. AS part of the program’s requirements, students are required to participate in a Leadership Effectiveness and Development (LEAD) course where they work on key management skills such as negotiation, team-building, and feedback generation. International programs also give students the chance to study in another country and learn how business is conducted across the borders.
