Tryton is a 3-tier application platform licensed under GPL-3, written in Python, hosted on a PostgreSQL database engine, and owned by Tryton Foundation, a private foundation registered under Belgian law. It is a high-level open-source Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and other organizations to maintain and to optimize business processes.

Tryton’s major benefits, as the core base of a complete business solution, are its capability of providing modularity, scalability and security. Tryton Kernel, the core of Tryton, delivers all the essential functionalities of a secure application framework like users management i.e. authenticaction, control for data access, and a fluid concurrent access of resources. Tryton also offers extensive modularity making it easy to manage and upgrade design patterns of existing modules, if need be, without affecting the rest of the system.

This warrants many application modules to be developed to serve a specific business domain or purpose. Tryton’s framework is data persistent enabling storage of demographic entities like customers, suppliers, orders, and sales. Workflow and report engines are also integrated into the Tryton Framework which is a plus for business administration.

This architecture supports internalization meaning it can be adapted to cater for different languages and technical requirements of the target market. It is also compatible to different OS including Windows, Linux, MacOS x, BSD, and browsers such as Chrome and Firefox. It is applicable to a variety of business related field of administration, accounting, finance, and many more. All these features make it a complete ERP for any business process customization.
