PredictionIO is an open source machine learning server that is designed using state of the art technology used by data scientists, end users, and developers for creating predictive engines for any machine learning tasks. The main components of PredictionIO are; PredictionIO platform, event server, template gallery.
The PredictionIO platform enables evaluation and deployment of engines using machine learning algorithms. The event server enables unifying of events from several platforms using its analytics layer. The template gallery, a component of PredictionIO, provides users with a good platform for downloading engine templates for the different type of machine learning applications.
The engine of PredictionIO is responsible for making prediction and contains several machine learning algorithms. The function of the engine is to read training data and build predictive models. The engine is also deployed as a web service which later responds to prediction queries from a user’s application through REST API in real-time. The event server featured by PredictionIO is able to collect data in real time from a user’s application.
The engine is also able to unify the data related to the user’s application from several platforms. The data that is unified is later provided to the engine for model training and evaluation and then the engine offers a unified view for data analysis. PredictionIO can be bundled with other machine learning stacks that simplify and accelerates scalable machine learning for infrastructure management. PredictionIO is also based on scalable open source services like Hadoop and implements what is called a Lambda Architecture.
