Open source point of sale is a web based point of sale system written in the PHP language. It uses MySQL as the data storage back-end and has a simple user interface. It can be installed locally or remotely, and is packaged with Docker for easy installation, and will even run on Raspberry PI. It’s an open source POS software for small retailers. It has a cash register/point of sale module that allows one to ring up sales and returns.

It also allows one to discount items on a line-by-line basis. It allows customers to use different modes of payments like cash, checks, gif cards, debit and credit cards. When a sale is completed it generates a sales receipt which will include a return policy as well as barcode to facilitate returns. It has several inventory control/management modules. They include, item management, barcode generation, item kit management, supplier management, inventory receiving’s and inventory reports.

These system modules are well integrated. Employees can be locked out of these inventory modules if they shouldn’t have access for them. The customer management module is very useful for capturing information while selling products and services. Multiple customers can be emailed at the same time.

It also has excellent customer reporting which allows one to print off a graphical customer summary report that shows which customers generated the most revenue for the store. One can also run a customer summary report that lets one see how much has been sold and how much profit has been made off each customer. This information can then be sorted and exported to excel.
