nViso Plug in Play Real-time 3D Facial Imaging API
nViso provides real-time API for online interactive applications enabling brands to create unique consumer experiences. The capability, implemented through a plug-and-play API and hosted through IBM’s Smart Cloud Enterprise, provides scalable and highly accurate real-time solution to measuring emotion over the Internet from a variety of input sources, including live webcam streams, pre-recorded videos, or still images (such as Facebook photos). The API is optimized for low bandwidth data connections enabling real-time low latency operation even over mobile net works.
The capabilities of the technology can be seen in an on-line campaign to promote the Cinemax television series “Hunted.” The promotion, developed by marketing agency Campfire, uses the nViso cloud-based API in one of the five tests to ‘interview’ potential applicants to the private security firm featured in the plot of the series. It interprets and analyzes web site visitors’ emotional responses to various stimuli and produces an instant evaluation of whether they could be qualified for a position with the firm.
To use the nViso solution, no software installation is required and all that is needed is a web browser and a webcam. It supports any PC based web browser enabled with Adobe Flash Player 10 or higher or any native mobile application with access to a camera such as Android or Apple IOS platforms. The engine is designed for natural environments and supports processing people depicted in images with poor lighting, glasses, occlusion, beards and head pose.
A stimulus (for instance, a TV commercial or promotional message) can be viewed on a respondent’s computer or mobile device. Using the recipient’s own webcam, nViso’s intelligent software system captures the most transitory of facial micro expressions precisely as the stimulus is viewed. Second-by-second response is automatically sent to a central server for analysis and processing. The nViso APIs can be used for mobile apps, allowing data capture using a smartphone or tablet devices.
The nViso technology is based on advancements in machine learning, video processing and mathematical modeling and incorporates the company’s expertise in computer science, engineering and behavioral sciences to deliver a unique emotion recognition technology platform. Using dynamic 3-D facial expression recognition technology, nViso software services provide an analysis of consumer emotions, including the reporting and visualization of six emotional responses such as anger,disgust, fear, surprise, happiness and surprise.
