Mozilla lightning Calendar is a fully integrated calendar that helps in organizing schedules and life's important events with Thunderbird or Seamonkey email. Mozilla Calendar emphasizes free and open source technology and supports standardized technology like the ical/ics format and CalDAV protocol, which is implemented by many freely available servers and also some commercial providers.

It can be used to manage multiple calendars, to create a daily to-do list, to invite friends, and to subscribe to public calendars. The primary goal of the Calendar Team is to synchronize the Lightning release cycle with Thunderbird, and this means they will be using the latest Thunderbird and Mozilla codebase (comm-central and Mozilla-central) for active development.

The lightning Calendar add-on for Thunderbird can be used to create a new event or task, and to create new calendars which makes it possible to have multiple calendars that are created either in calendar mode or task mode. With Thunderbird, the lightning Calendar can be used to change the date and time of an event or to change the calendar preferences based on name, color location and more.

Lightning can also set up a meeting, and keep track of the people attending and the ones not attending as well as allowing sending of invites to people that do not use Thunderbird/lightning including Microsoft Outlook users.

Lightning enables; adding of a holiday calendar files which are available for download then importing into Lightning, exporting and sharing a calendar with Thunderbird, and the creation of a recurrent event.
