Leaflet is an open-source JavaScript library, weighing just about 38 KB of JS which works efficiently across all major desktop and mobile platforms and can be extended with lots of plugins, beautiful, easy to use and well-documented API and a simple and readable source code.
Leaflet offers features such as Pure CSS3 popups and controls for easy restyling, Image- and HTML-based markers, custom map layers and controls, Custom map projections, Powerful OOP facilities for extending existing classes, Hardware acceleration on mobile makes it feel as smooth as native apps.
Leaflet Utilizes CSS3 features to make panning and zooming really smooth, Smart polyline/polygon rendering with dynamic clipping and simplification, Modular build system, Tap delay elimination on mobile, Zoom and pan animation.
It also offers Tile and popup fade animation, Very nice default design for markers, popups and map controls, Retina resolution support, Drag panning with inertia, Scroll wheel zoom, Pinch-zoom on mobile, Double click zoom, Zoom to area (shift-drag), Keyboard navigation, Marker dragging.
Tile layers, WMS Markers, Popups, Vector layers like polylines, polygons, circles or rectangles, Image overlays, GeoJSON and map controls such as Zoom buttons, Attribution, Layer switcher and Scale. Leaflet is provider-agnostic which means users can use any map provider as long as they conform to its terms of use so users can roll their own tiles as well or make use of different tile providers such as OpenStreetMap, MapBox, Bing Maps (using a plugin), Esri ArcGIS (official plugin), MapQuest (official plugins) and Here Maps where users can also use the Google Maps API.
It focuses on making the basic things work perfectly. Meant to be as lightweight as possible.
