GanttProject is a project scheduling and time management tool. It runs on Windows, Linux and OS X. It generates both Gantt and PERT charts easily. It can also generate reports for you in HTML and PDF formats. Using GanttProject you can also be able to import and export to Microsoft Project formats. It’s open source and freely available on SourceForge.
GanttProject has Gantt charts that will help you come up with milestones so that you can be able to see how your tasks are organized. It can also be used to produce a PERT chart too. It allows you to assign human resources to work on each task. It also allows you to record how much time your human resource is working on the task you have assigned, their role in the task etc.
GanttProject has a resources chart that’s separate that will keep you updated in terms of who’s too busy and who isn’t. When it comes to sharing information, GanttProject allows you to import and export your projects in Microsoft project and CSV formats. You also have access to an option for saving individual charts as images, or generate HTML or PDF reports on what you’re doing. In addition, there’s WebDAV support which will help you share projects directly with others.
GanttProject is very handy when it comes to planning sessions with team members as it’s easy to adjust the plan interactively with your team. If you’re on a tight budget and you have a small team, GanttProject will be very useful to you. GanttProject has a Gant chart feature that enables you to create tasks and milestones where aside from the start date and duration, it allows you to give every task a priority, cost, color and fill pattern, text notes and user-defined custom fields.
Using the Gantt chart, you are able to organize tasks in a work breakdown structure which takes advantage of a hierarchical tree where progress, dates or costs of lower level tasks is summarized on the higher levels. It allows you to collapse summary tasks so that you can hide tasks which aren’t important at a particular moment.
