Firebird is a relational and open source database that provides many SQL and ANSI features that are able to perform on Windows, Linux, and several UNIX platforms. Firebird provides excellent concurrency, powerful language support, and high performance support for stored procedures and triggers. Firebird simply provides an open source relational database management system that provides excellent performance and scales impressively by use of an embedded and single user model to enterprise wide deployments. The main features provided by Firebird are; multi-generation architecture, support of all major platforms and operation systems, SQL language that is powerful and friendly, monitoring and logging, secureness, and tools for developers. Firebird provides support to a number of major platforms and operation systems such as MacOS, Solaris and many more. Firebird also provides an excellent platform for easy migration mechanisms between the major platforms and operation systems. The multi-generation architecture feature provided by Firebird facilitates developing and support of hybrid OLAP and OLTP applications. The multi-generation architecture provided by Firebird database also provides an excellent capability of serving simultaneously as both an operational and analytical data store. The powerful and developer friendly SQL language provides the common table expressions, Cross-database queries, and user defined functions. Support provided by developer-friendly SQL language triggers the procedures through active table concepts and events, flexible transactions management, and through the full blown stored procedures. The logging and monitoring feature presented by Firebird database provides an excellent Trace API and a rich set of monitoring tables. This is achieved by Firebird database providing an excellent platform for SQL debugging, Real-time monitoring, and audit of events and remote connection. Firebird database also presents the security feature. The security feature provides standard security, Windows Trusted Authentication, and network. The Windows Trusted Authentication provides users with a single-sign in and facilitates integration with the Windows domain or the active directory security.
