CARTO offers exceptional multiplatform data and cartography. Its major features are custom basemaps, geocoding, routing, Isolines and data observatory. Basemaps are available using standard XY map title URLs (raster) with retina support or as vector maps (GL). CARTO makes use of OpenStreetMap data or 3rd party providers to provide continuous data updates for the basemaps. Basemaps can be customized further through Tangem Play or with help from the CARTO design team. Basemaps have a scalable framework and are cached through a global CDN with more than 30 POPs providing accurate maps. Raster basemaps can be used directly without an API key but to use vector basemaps you will need an API key from Mapzen. CARTO has an in-built geocoder that offers forward and reverse geocoding allowing datasets that don’t contain a geospatial column to be transformed into a map with accurate and precise location identification.. With this feature you can; save and store results of your geocoding query to your database, search locally and globally – combines the best nearby search results with the best matches around the globe. CARTO geocoder provides a powerful toolset with PostgreSQL and PostGIS capabilities at your fingertips. CARTO’s routing service delivers rapid analysis to determine the shortest course and turn-by-turn directions based on your mode of transportation and capability to save routing results permanently. The routing service is available globally using the Javascript client or the JSON API over HTTP. CARTO’s time and distance Isolines offer calculations of an area of interest based on distance to empower your business analysis and intelligence. Distance Isolines can be fully integrated in 3rd party applications as part of the publicly available data services API. Data observatory is integrated into CARTO enabling you to turn your data and address locations into comprehensive reports about the characteristics of the local population.
