Umbrello UML Modeller is a Unified Modelling Language (UML) diagram program based on KDE Technology. UML allows users to create diagrams of software and other systems in a standard format to document or design the structure of their programs.
Umbrello comes with KDE SC, included with every Linux distribution and available through users’ package manager and as an installer for Windows and Mac OS X. The program supports the following languages of code generators: ActionScript, Ada, C++, C#, D, IDL, Java, JavaScript, MySQL, Pascal, Perl, PHP, PHP5, PostgreSQL, Python, Ruby, SQL, Tcl, Vala and MLSchema.
Besides this, Umbrello supports XMI 1.2 file import and export (nearly compatible to UML 1.4) although support for XMI 2.0 is currently being developed. When installing Umbrello it is important to keep in mind that the program is part of KDE Software Compilation which means it comes with all GNU/Linux distributions. Users will be able to install it using their normal software installation app (Muon, Software Centre, Yast etc) or command line package manager (yum, up2date, yast, zypper, apt-get, emerge etc.).
On Fedora 20 users will be required to install the package oxygen-icon-theme; otherwise Umbrello will not show any icons. Umbrello installer and portable packages for 32bit and 64 bit Windows are available at the KDE download mirror network. Furthermore, Umbrello on Windows is part of the KDE on Windows distribution installed with the KDE-Installer. However, the KDE on Windows distribution does not contain the latest Umbrello releases. The software is also available for Mac OS X on MacPorts.
