Under the education initiative, SAS Analytics U, launched Free SAS software for higher education called SAS University Edition. SAS University Edition is a free version of select SAS products for teaching and learning statistics and quantitative methods.

SAS University Edition provides easy access to statistical software for research and other courses like economics, social sciences, computer science, business, medical, health and engineering. Once downloaded, the software can be used in a standalone PC, Mac or a Linux workstation. The package also includes e learning classes and training videos and access to the SAS Analytics U community, where you can interact with users, share ideas and access more SAS resources.

Free SAS software for higher education : SAS University Edition : Components

The components include Base SAS, SAS/STAT, SAS/IML, SAS Studio and SAS/ACCESS.

Base SAS make programming with the SAS programming language, ODS graphics and reporting procedures. Base SAS is flexible, intuitive 4GL with easy-to-learn syntax and provides data analysis including descriptive statistics, correlations, distribution analysis, table analysis.SAS Macro Facility reduces coding for common tasks to modularize work for easy reuse and maintenance and support for Structured Query Language (SQL).

SAS/ACCESS provides easy connection to data with access and integration between SAS and common third party PC file formats.

SAS/STAT provides a wide variety of statistical methods and techniques including Analysis of Variance, Bayesian Analysis, Categorical Data Analysis, Cluster Analysis, Descriptive Statistics,Discriminant Analysis, Distribution Analysis, Exact Methods, Group Sequential Design and Analysis, Market Research, Missing Value Imputation, Mixed Models, Multivariate Analysis, Nonparametric Statistics, Power and Sample Size,Psychometric Analysis, Regression and Spatial Analysis.

SAS/IML provides the matrix programming language for more specialized analyses and data exploration including interactive matrix programming language, control statements, matrix functions, linear algebra and statistical functions, time series functions, and numerical analysis functions, extensive set of dynamic mathematical and matrix operators, linear algebraic and statistical functions, time series, numerical analysis and interactive data analysis.

SAS Studio for autocomplete for hundreds of SAS statements and procedures, as well as built-in syntax help. SAS Studio provides helpful programming tools to increase productivity with interactive feedback and prompts, pop-up syntax help ,code-generating tasks to speed development and increase efficiency and browser-based interface for basic data manipulation and basic statistical tasks to generate SAS code.
